What Are You Tracking?

Financial objectives address gift dollars to be raised, but adding non-monetary objectives into a non profit’s strategic plan will more effectively focus your fundraising process and systems.

Positive percentages are also very motivating — for staff because a comprehensive tracking system will include goals and objections at every level, but also for volunteers as it shows continual progress in multiple facets of your program.

Consider the positive impact of reporting on these types of objectives, then incorporate the tracking into your plan:

-Percent of constituency contributing during the year
-Percent of constituency solicited by mail
-Percent of constituency solicited face to face
-Average gift size
-Number of new donors over previous year
-Percent of new donors over previous year
-Percent of pledges paid
-Number of volunteers from year to year
-Number of major gift prospects
-Number of planned gifts
-Number of planned gift expectancies
-Number of gifts matched by employers
-Number of donors moving to higher levels
-Number of new members
-Number of event attendees
-Cost ratios for each special event
-Percent of successful grant applications
-Number of corrected addresses
-Number of renewed lapsed donors
-Percent of previous year’s donors
-Number of board calls and/or referrals
